Is the service religious?
We will tailor the service to be as religious as wished. On arrival at the designated area the Captain will, if possible, cut the engine as we play Elgar’s “Nimrod” then before the Traditional Committal Speech Tennyson’s “Crossing the Bar” is read. This beautiful and profound poem is pertinent to our purpose and made more so as this location is overlooked by his monument on the Southern cliffs of the Isle of Wight at Tennyson Down. The service will however be your choice and look forward to discussing it with you.
What are the current Covid-19 restrictions around Burial at Sea?
The current Government regulations regarding group gathering and social distancing allow for a committal service of up to 6 people. We will are observing social distancing taking steps to prioritise safety aboard our vessel.
In which areas do you operate?
Britannia services the whole of the British Isles, sailing from Keyhaven, Hampshire to a designated committal area South of The Needles.
My husband was not in the Royal Navy or indeed any of the services, however he wishes for a Burial at Sea, is this possible ?
Yes, that a Burial at Sea is exclusive is a MYTH.
Do I need to have a special reason to justify a Burial at Sea for myself.
No, it is the right & choice of the individual
I have heard that the paperwork involved in obtaining a licence for a Burial at Sea is complicated.
It is not, certainly no more so than for a terrestrial burial or cremation and it is all taken care of by us.
I have read that a coffin built to the specifications of the Marine Management Organization must be used, do I have to supply this myself?
No, it is supplied by Britannia & is INCLUDED in the price.
